Statement of Inclusion
The University of Sheffield formally requests inclusion in the Center for Dielectrics as an International partner. University of Sheffield is a top 100 research University with world-leading expertise in electroceramics. In addition to capabilities in ceramic processing and characterization similar to those at PSU and NCSU, Sheffield offers unique capabilities in Life Cycle analysis, world leading expertise in impedance spectroscopy and crystal chemistry, and an embedded, multi-scale modelling capability. Sheffield’s state-of-the-art labs are underpinned by approximately £5m of current grant income, and they have a research group consisting of 35 post doctoral researchers, PhD, and masters students.
Since the IAB first gave approval to move forward with their inclusion in Spring 2015, we have worked on enhancing the relationship between Sheffield and the CDP. Sheffield has funded a number of CDP-affiliated projects through linked schemes and intends increase this number in years to come. The Sheffield site would use it status as a CDP partner to provide a platform to attract companies to the CDP through Sheffield. Any membership income generated would remain at the Sheffield site to fund and top up projects for the benefit of the entire CDP membership.
The three universities (NCSU, PSU and Sheffield) have developed a draft Memorandum of Understanding and a modified Membership Agreement for your review. These would be used in the case that Sheffield would become an official CDP site.
We respectfully ask that you vote yes/no on inclusion of the University of Sheffield as an international partner. In the case of a favourable vote by the IAB, Professor Dickey will work with the National Science Foundation to determine how to best proceed with their official incorporation.
