2022 Buessem Award Recipient
Eberhard Hennig was born in Lichteneichen (a small village in the Saxonian region) in the former Eastern Germany in 1953. He has worked in the piezoceramic industry for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2019.
From 1972 to 1977, he studied Physics at the Martin- Luther-University Halle, Germany and graduated with a Diploma Degree in 1977. He started his career as industrial engineer at the Keramische-Werke Hermsdorf in 1977. In 1994, he joined PI Ceramic GmbH, Lederhose, Germany as a development engineer. From 2003, he was the R&D manager, and from 2014, the head of the Central R&D. After his retirement, he worked as a Senior Advisor for PI Ceramic until the end of 2019.
He led numerous costumer-related product and technology development projects in a wide field of applications of PZT-based piezoelectric ceramics. Further, he was also responsible for many funded national and European R&D projects. From 2004, the focus of his work was directed to the development and application-related characterization of new, more environmentally friendly lead-free piezoelectric materials and the support of customers in the application of the new lead-free piezoceramic materials. In this position, he was the representative of PI Ceramic in the European Umbrella project for the renewal of the ROHS-exemption of PZT based piezoelectric ceramics.
Eberhard Hennig’s work has led to more than 20 national and international patents and more than 25 publications. To share his knowledge, he has given more than 50 lectures at national and international conferences, as well as on customer sites. Furthermore, he has supervised five Diploma works. Eberhard Hennig was also the representative of PI Ceramic for the Center for Dielectrics and Piezoelectrics and served as co-chair and chair of the Industrial Advisory Board from Fall 2016 to Fall 2017 and Fall 2017 to Spring 2018, respectively.
Dr. Hennig was honored in absentia for the 2022 Buessem Award at the CDP Fall 2022 Meeting on October 5, 2022. He will be officially presented with the award at a future meeting.
